Take two strips of fabric-sew them together-cut triangles and you have an amazing quilt! BUT WAIT- you don’t have just one quilt- You Have TWO!!! Learn the basics of this fun strip piecing method and then let your imagination run wild as you use “Heads” and “Tails” triangle blocks to design your own wonderful quilts.

 

Quilt 1- finished size 56”X60”

Quilt 2- finished size 55”X55”

Equipment : 6” square ruler or quarter square triangle ruler

Fabric Requirements:

You need two groups of contrasting fabrics i.e., Red/black, red/blue, pink/purple, etc. Each group needs 6 coordinating fat quarters or 1/8 th of a yard of each fabric.

(6 coordinating red pieces and 6 coordinating pieces of black fabric)

 

Accent fabric- 2 yards

 

Quilt 1: ¾ yard fabric for 1 st border

2 yards for 2 nd border

2/3 yard for binding

 

Quilt 2: 1 ¾ yards of fabric for boarder

5/8 yard for binding

 

Cutting Instructions:

Cut all fabric across the width of the fabric

-Cut contrasting fabrics into strips 2 ¾” wide

-Cut accent fabric into strips 1 5/8” wide

 

Sew: each 2 ¾” strip to a 1 5/8” strip using an exact ¼” seam allowance. Use a dry iron and press seam allowances of one group of fabric toward the accent fabric. Press the other group of fabrics toward the contrasting fabric.
