42. Pam Kay – Rib Basket

Try your hand at a new weaving form!  The rib basket is suitable for beginners and the experienced alike!  Ribs give the basket shape, and weaving is continuous.  It's called an egg basket, a melon basket, buttocks basket, or just plain rib basket.  I like a primitive look, so I've used milk paint and some distressing techniques on these baskets,
but they are very beautiful when finished with a traditional weavers stain.  The shape can be varied simply by changing the size and position
of the ribs.  You will learn to make a gods' eye to insert the ribs into.  The only tools you'll need are something to cut with, a measuring tape and a pencil.  Bring along basket weaving packing tools if you have them, but they are not essential for this project.  And guess what else?  No rim to lash on!
