This lovely block creates the look of a somewhat broken chain across the quilt. The consistent use of a single fabric or color in that position would create a more definite chain. I’ve used many batiks and the quilt has a rich dramatic look. Quilt is 66” x 66” or any size you choose. It would make a beautiful table runner in holiday fabrics.

This is foundation pieced for simplicity and durability.  Each student will draw their own foundation on muslin, so it can be perfectly tailor made to the size you like!  My blocks consist of wool strips that are 2 ½” wide and after they are sewn together are 19 ½” finished, but you may opt to go with larger or smaller strips and more or fewer strips and as many blocks as you like, depending on the fabric choices you make.  The entire top of my quilt is washed wool, it has a cotton batting and a cotton flannel back.  It is very heavy and will keep you toasty warm in the coldest weather!  It has been big stitch hand quilted.  This would be equally wonderful in cottons.

Skill Level: All
Pattern Fee: None

Kit Fee: no kits are available

This is a great way to use "holy" fabric, that you can't bear to cut up. Students will learn this technique by working on a small individual project using two layers of fabric, plus batting and backing.  With Cathy's help, each student will design their own piece. Machine quilting will attach all the layers together, then the top layer is cut to reveal the design. The pieces will be mostly completed at the end of the three hour class.  This is a hugely popular class!

Skill Level: Machine appliqué. Some free motion experience required

Pattern: Written instructions and design suggestions will be supplied.
